How to Care for your Oilcloth
When you first receive your oilcloth, place it on a flat surface to rest – wrinkles, folds and odor fall out especially fast in the warm sun.
Wipe clean with a soft soapy cloth and rinse with vinegar to restore shine if needed. Because oilcloth is waterproof, machine washing is not recommended.
History of Oilcloth
Contemporary oilcloth is a direct descendant of canvas cloths treated and waterproofed with linseed oil, hence the name oilcloth. Our oilcloth is similar to its predecessor from the 1950s but is new and improved — it does not crack, peel, or fade with normal usage.
Oilcloth has a woven, durable scrim backing, and is printed by the old fashioned rotogravure method. Some of our prints are from copper rollers from the 1950’s!
Even pups enjoy our oilcloths 🙂
Bright and colorful Mexican oilcloths: Bring the beauty and history of these joyful designs into your everyday life
Waterproof and durable: Wipe clean and your tablecloth will be good as new
So many uses: This is a wonderful tablecloth for kitchen, picnic, and dining room tables, yes – but it is also an excellent play mat for children, a cheerful waterproof picnic blanket, a special summer tablecloth, or a ‘splat mat’ for those messy phases of life
Variations: Tablecloths come in two shapes: square and rectangular. The rectangular tablecloths fit standard dining tables, picnic tables, and patio tables.
What is oilcloth?: Modern oilcloth is a vinyl fabric with a polycotton scrim backing; it is a direct descendant of the old-time practice of treating canvas cloths with linseed oil [hence the name oilcloth]. Our oilcloth is similar to its predecessor but is new and improved — it does not crack, peel, or fade with normal usage.
